DNA replication is a fundamental process for all cells and as such is subject to exquisite cell cycle control and integration with other key cellular processes. In particular, faithful genome duplication is critically dependent on homologous recombination, which serves to protect stalled replication forks and to facilitate restart of DNA synthesis following replication fork stalling/collapse. Failure to execute replication, repair or recombination effectively is a major source of genome instability in cells, which lies at the heart of cancer and aging in humans. Although recent advances have improved our understanding of a number of the key steps and transactions that govern DNA replication and recombination, our knowledge of the pathways that coordinate replication and repair remains incomplete. Given the intimate relationship between DNA replication and recombination and their importance for genome stability, this meeting will be held jointly with the Keystone Symposia on Genome Stability and DNA Repair. These concurrent meetings will provide a unique forum for interdisciplinary discussions by bring together leading experts in these areas with a shared keynote address and two joint plenary sessions. Joint sessions will be interspersed with specific topic sessions, workshops and poster session that have been selected to highlight the latest advances in our understanding of the mechanisms governing DNA replication and recombination, the emerging interconnections between these fields, the various multidisciplinary approaches that are currently driving the field forward and the challenges that remain to be investigated.
