You are invited to attend the 7th International Symposium on Gas Transfer at Water Surfaces in Seattle, Washington, USA on May 18-21, 2015.  The Symposium has occurred every 5 years since 1983 to bring together the scientific and engineering community investigating the theory and applications of gas transfer at water surfaces.  The focus is on the physicochemical and biogeochemical processes that govern gas fluxes, which include turbulence, bubbles, shear, and natural and anthropogenic surfactants.  These are the same mechanisms that govern the fluxes of heat and momentum and thus the conference is attended by many in the community studying a wide range of transport  processes that occur across gas-water boundaries or within the near-surface layers close to those boundaries.

Presentations from geosciences (oceanography, atmospheric sciences, hydrology) engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, chemical, environmental) and the basic sciences related to all aspects of transport to, and transfer across, gas-water boundaries are encouraged.  Symposium topics involving gas-water fluxes of mass, heat, and particulates include, but are not limited to:

  • Laboratory and numerical studies
  • Field observations
  • Influence of wind, wave breaking, bubbles, and raindrops
  • Biological effects, including surfactants
  • Measurement techniques
  • Remote sensing
  • Global scale processes
  • Ocean acidification
  • High latitude processes
