The International Conference on Tropical Environmental Design or SusTED was mooted in 2009 in response to the faculty’s decision to highlight its niche area in teaching, research and consultancy in sustainable tropical environmental design. The annual event has increasingly grown with increasing participation from international and local participants. Even though SusTED focuses on planning and design of the living environment, it has received very encouraging participations from people of other disciplines which relate to built environment. This is due to the fact that design issues are interdisciplinary in nature and need the participation from various other disciplines such as legal, planning, economics, biology, botany, forestry, agriculture, art, etc. SusTED aimed at providing a platform for interdisciplinary discussions towards a common aim – i.e. providing a better and sustainable living environment for people and other living creatures sharing this planet. Therefore, SusTED also provides a link between policy makers, researchers, and practitioners.

Anyone who feels responsible towards sustainable innovation in the built environment including planners, architects, landscape architects, interior architects, artists, engineers, scientists, educators, researchers, foresters, horticulturists, property developers, government official, local council administrators, students, etc.
