DESCRIPTION The successful candidate will have to:
  • Lead the Nanostructures, Functional Measurements & Prototyping group of the Central Materials Laboratory and report to the department direction:
  • Propose to the department direction the strategic plan of the Central Laboratory, in line with the proposed RDI unit business plans and needs;
  • Translate the approved strategy in the drafting of:
    • a short, mid and long-term business-plan for the laboratory including RDI activities plan and its global investment strategy (infrastructure, equipment, HR);
    • a competitive pluri-annual research program and an appropriate funding plan (coordinated with the RDI unit);
    • a valorisation strategy of process and equipment technologies towards the industrial and/or public sector;
  • Implement the laboratory business plan;
  • Define and propose relevant KPI’s to monitor the performance of the groups within the laboratory;
  • Coordinate the activities of the laboratory groups (priorities management);
  • Foster and manage collaborations with the RDI units, as well as other stakeholders;
  • Represent and promote the laboratory externally in line with LIST’s communication strategy;
  • Be accountable for the administrative and financial follow-up of the laboratory projects;
  • Be hierarchically the person responsible for the laboratory group leaders;
  • Propose a recruitment plan;
  • Manage in collaboration with HR, the recruitment of the staff, the competence development plan and the appraisal process of his/her direct reporting collaborators;
  • Propose and implement a quality management plan (in line with the quality policies of the LIST) and be accountable for the laboratory quality performance;
  • Manage health and safety procedures of the laboratory (in line with the H&S policies of the LIST);
  • Propose and implement best practices of usage of equipment;
  • Continue to develop his/her own expertise in one field of expertise of the laboratory;
  • Manage the technical support of the MRT department.
PROFILE To succeed in this position you shall:
  • Hold a PhD degree or Engineer degree in Chemistry or Physics with equivalent applied research experience;
  • Possess a proven experience in managing a large scale laboratory or high-capex equipment pool or good record in pilot-line management;
  • Have at least 10 years of relevant professional experience in large-project management and team management responsibilities in a competitive R&D environment (Industrial or RTO);
  • Demonstrate a renowned scope of knowledge in at least three of the six following activities (reactive polymer processing, thin-film processing, organic/colloidal chemistry, device and nanofabrication technology, instrumentation, functional measurements);
  • Show a high-level track record in one of the laboratory activities (two would be an asset);
  • Have an experience in generating intellectual property in process and equipment technologies;
  • Have an experience in the definition and implementation of laboratory activity plans based on RDI strategic plans;
  • Have a proven experience in terms of cooperation with the socio-economic sector;
  • Possess a sound experience in quality, safety and equipment managements;
  • Show good organizational, interpersonal and negotiation skills;
  • Have an excellent command of English and French, knowledge of German or Luxembourgish being an asset.
