Architect and project collaborator (80 – 100%)

We are looking for an architect to help with the design and implementation of a fully functional residential unit within the NEST (https://nest.empa.ch). This project will be designed and realized to showcase the highly innovative research on digital design methods and novel robotic fabrication technologies developed at the NCCR Digital Fabrication. This position will work closely with the NEST Project Manager to develop all aspects of the project, from early design concepts through to the completed and constructed building. Output of this work will include design development, visualizations, models, and design documents. Responsibilities will include coordinating the design, ensuring compliance with regulations, submission of construction documents, tender specifications, site supervision, and project documentation for publications and exhibitions.

The candidate should have completed a diploma or degree program in architecture and have strong conceptual design skills. Technical proficiencies should include excellent CAD, 3D modelling and visualization skills (Autocad, Rhinoceros 3D, Revit) and knowledge of computational design tools (Grasshopper, scripting). Familiarity with the principles of digital fabrication and experience with construction and/or physical prototyping are valuable assets. Our ideal candidate has a high level of initiative and the ability to work independently, but should flourish as a team player. Strong interests in innovation and technology will facilitate the ability to engage actively within our interdisciplinary team and will ensure that this position becomes a vital part of the NCCR Digital Fabrication. Fluency in German (written and spoken) is essential, and competent working abilities in English are required.
