This year, as we reach this momentous point in the Decade of Centenaries, it is appropriate to think about the longer term impact of the Great Famine on movements of political change in Ireland. Thus we will be addressing the theme ‘From Famine to Freedom’. As happened last year, the conference will form part of the Irish Famine Summer School, which has the same theme as the conference and runs from June 14th-17th 2016 at Strokestown Park House, see http://irishfaminesummerschool.com/ for more information on this.

The annual Famine conference is an international, interdisciplinary event that brings together local, national and international Famine experts. We ask for papers that approach the subject ‘From Famine to Freedom’ from the broadest possible historical perspective.  We welcome proposals for 20 minute papers and envisage dedicated panels on the following themes:

·  Post-Famine Ireland

·  The Land War

·  Ranch War

·  Cultural Revival

·  1916

·  Diaspora
