Climate change poses a potential threat to tropical forest, however, the impact will be slow and difficult to measure. But since the tropical forest ecosystem, plays a major various roles in global carbon sequestration, regulating water and flood in river basin, source of timber products and providing income to local communities. Hence, it is pertinent to review the impacts of climate change on these values of tropical forest based on the knowledge that has been gathered and accumulated through research over the years. Malaysia is fully committed to address issues related to climate change, where in Rio’s conference 1992 Malaysia pledged to maintain 50% of land area under permanent forest cover and the same statement was reiterated in Copenhagen in 2009. Malaysia became a Non-Annex 1 Party to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) when it ratified the UNFCCC in 1994. Later Malaysia ratified the Kyoto Protocol in 2004. The conference provides a platform for scientists, professionals, policy makers, managers and environmentalists to share and exchange ideas on issues. The proposed two days conference will provide ample opportunity to deliberate on these issues by distinguished speakers related to their field of expertise. The conference will ensure a balance representation of papers on each topic that has been identified. Besides, indulging on a serious discussion during the technical sessions, participants to the conference will have the opportunity to experience and share the effort made by Malaysia with regard to sustainable management of the resource, man-made forest and beautiful botanical garden in fast developing federal administrative centre of Putrajaya.
