Postdoctoral Appointee - Hybrid Biomolecular Materials Research

Country: USA;

Deadline: 01.05.2017

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to join a research team that is studying the energy-driven assembly of hybrid biomolecular materials. More specifically, this work involves engineering kinesin motor proteins, microtubule filaments, lipids, and polymers to cooperatively interact and assemble dynamic networks of lipid/polymer nanotubes. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Modifying motor proteins, characterizing the interfacial interactions of biomolecular and synthetic components, and developing an understanding of energy-dissipative self-assembly + Conducting research to develop an understanding how metastabilities may be incorporated into these systems in order to achieve temporal and spatial control over network morphologies + Working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team of chemists, engineers, biologists, and computational scientists + Communicating research results through high-impact publications and conference presentations

+ PhD, conferred within five years prior to employment, in Bioengineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biomaterials, Molecular Biology, or a related field + Experience with optical and high-resolution imaging techniques and data analysis, prokaryotic cell culture, recombinant protein purification, and/or genetic engineering techniques + Good communication skills as evidenced by a history of publication of results in peer-reviewed journals and external presentations at appropriate scientific conferences

+ Experience with microfabrication techniques such as photolithography, soft lithography, microcontact printing, etc.

Department Description:

The Nanosystems Synthesis and Analysis Department consists of CINT scientific research staff assigned to the Physical, Chemical, & Nanosciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories. CINT is a DOE/Office of Science National User Facility operated jointly by Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories with facilities at both Laboratories. The CINT Science Department is dedicated to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials into microscale and macroscale systems and devices.
