Doctoral Scholarship in Physics and Mathematics of Information, Portugal

Country: Portugal;

Deadline: 30.10.2017

The Doctoral Programme in the Physics and Mathematics of Information: Foundations of Future Information Technologies (DP-PMI) aims at funding a significant part of the students selected for the programme, namely through the DP-PMI Scholarships, but students funded from other sources can also apply to the DP-PMI.

The DP-PMI Scholarships

The standard DP-PMI Scholarships are four years long and include:
- a monthly stipend of 980 Euro (tax free);
- the tuition fees of the doctoral degree (up to the month of the thesis defense);
- social security;
- insurance for accidents at the workplace throughout the period of the scholarship;
- moving subsidy, for students moving to Lisbon from abroad;
- travel funds to present work at international scientific conferences.

The Outgoing DP-PMI Scholarships, available only to applicants with permanent residence in Portugal, offer -- additionally to the points above -- a 75% top-up for every month spent abroad during scientific visits to a partner of the DP-PMI Network.

Other scholarships

Additional scholarships may be available through the seven research centres associated with the programme and the respective research projects.

Students funded from other sources (excluding FCT scholarships) can also apply to the DP-PMI.

Additional student support

Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) provides, via its Student Support Office (NAPE), general logistical and practical support to all doctoral students, and in particular to those with special needs, such as people with disabilities, pregnant women, or students from very different cultural backgrounds.

Furthermore, IST has its own Medical and Psychological Support Services (SMAP), located on campus at Alameda.

Both IST and the DP-PMI can offer administrative support to students requiring a visa to study in Portugal. Please note that the visa application can only be submitted after admission to the DP-PMI, and the visa can take more than two months to be issued.
