Meeting Description:
We are happy to invite you to submit you to the 3rd Symposium on West African Languages (SyWAL2018) which will be held in Warsaw from 26 to 29 September, 2018.
The first edition of the Symposium (SyWAL2014) took place in Naples and was organized by Dipartimento Asia, Africa e Mediterraneo, Università di Napoli “L’Orientale, the second edition (SyWAL2016) was held at the Institut für Afrikawissenschaften, Universität Wien. The third edition (SyWAL2018) will be organized in Poland by Katedra Języków i Kultur Afryki Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego. The conference events will take place on the premises of the University of Warsaw. The working language is English.
SyWAL 2018 aims to cover all aspects of studies on African languages spoken in West Africa and West African languages used elsewhere.
Call for Papers:
We are happy to invite you to submit your papers to the 3rd Symposium on West African Languages (SyWAL 2018) which will be held in Warsaw from 26 to 29 September, 2018.
SyWAL 2018 aims to cover all aspects of studies on African languages spoken in West Africa and West African languages used elsewhere. We invite papers discussing the topics related (but not limited) to the following research areas: descriptive linguistics of individual languages, typology and comparative linguistics, sociolinguistics, contact phenomena, cultural linguistics, computational linguistics, gestures and sign languages, discursive variants and language registers.
Participants are encouraged – but not required – to present the papers related to the topics of the following panels (check the conference webpage to see a description):
- Linguistic areas in West Africa
- The sociolinguistics of West African migrations and mobilities
- Consecutive in West-African languages: between finite and non-finite
- Pidgins and creoles in West African context
- West African gestures and sign languages
- Hausa in cross-cultural communication
- Recent developments in descriptive linguistics of Hausa
