About the department
Oral Formulation Research consists of 13 dedicated and enthusiastic colleagues from 5 different nationalities. Our shared ambition is to develop new formulation concepts for oral delivery of proteins and peptides and our tasks comprise of activities within formulation of solid dosage forms, solid state characterisation, biophysics & analysis, including generation of intellectual property.

The position
We are looking for 1 temporary (12 months) Senior Research Scientist.

Your main responsibilities will be to focus on developing innovative oral drug delivery systems, ranging from “traditional tablets” to oral devices. You will be required to show leadership in driving projects from idea to practice. You are expected to work in our laboratories in an independent manner, generating high quality data and assuring progress in projects that aligns with internal stakeholder expectations. You will act as scientist within research projects from early research to first human dose. According to project needs you should be able to take on additional responsibilities within biophysics, characterisation and analysis. You will work closely together with other departments within Global Research, such as Pharmacology, Analysis, Project office and other R&D teams. In addition you will contribute to intellectual property generation.

We expect you to be a team player with a can-do attitude who takes pride in understanding and challenging the science. You should value knowledge sharing with other scientists as well as with our experienced laboratory technicians.

This job will offer you high level of independence and flexibility within the research project framework.

Qualifications
You must hold a relevant PhD in Life Sciences (Pharmaceutical Sciences, Engineering or other relevant discipline). You have profound knowledge of oral solid dosage forms meaning pharmaceutical formulation expertise including characterisation and analysis of said dosage forms.

You must possess significant knowledge about oral drug delivery technologies and insight in the GI-tract physiology as well as relevant animal models for oral drug delivery. It is essential that you have a track record of original research within oral drug delivery. Previous industry experience is an advantage but not a requirement. Previous experience with patenting is considered as a plus.

You have a flexible mind-set and find it motivating to work in a dynamic project environment. You have passion for laboratory work in order to bring the ideas alive. You are creative (thinking out of the box) and innovative in finding solutions for scientific challenges that you encounter when developing novel drug delivery systems. You have strong communication skills, are able to convey your ideas and data to your colleagues efficiently. As you will work in an international organisation, you will need to possess excellent networking and building relations capabilities to ensure high level collaboration with your colleagues and stakeholders. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is a prerequisite.
