The University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education (ICE) delivers high quality and distinctive educational programmes for adult learners, predominantly studying on a part-time basis, for either personal enrichment or professional development. ICE aims to ensure that the expertise and resources of the University of Cambridge are made available to all students, irrespective of their previous educational achievements.

We wish to appoint a Head of Academic Centre Administration, working collaboratively with academics and administrators from across ICE and the Collegiate University, to develop a portfolio of non-award bearing courses primarily targeted at learners aged 55-years and over. Learning in later life has a range of documented merits in the promotion of positive aging including physical and mental health benefits and is one of the fastest growing educational markets across the world. The portfolio of courses will be an intellectually appealing offer of day-schools, weekly classes and residential courses spanning the Arts and Sciences. Our aim is to create an inclusive and vibrant community of learning with scholarly and social dimensions.

Through administrative leadership the Head of Academic Centre Administration in Lifelong Learning will act to ensure that this new initiative is thoughtfully and actively developed, and the courses delivered by ICE are of the very highest academic quality, commensurate with the University of Cambridge's reputation as one of the world's leading higher education providers.

The successful applicant will be responsible for line-managing a small administrative team, ensuring that a wide portfolio of courses is effectively developed. Reporting to the Director of the International Summer Programmes and Lifelong Learning Division, the role-holder will manage the administration of course commissioning and course management, develop processes to enhance the student experience and maintain effective financial control of this new initiative. Working collaboratively with academics and other internal and external stakeholders, the successful applicant will ensure that a consistent and high-quality student-focused programme is delivered.

The successful candidate will have experience of leading educational activities, projects and people in the Higher Education sector as well as excellent organisational, IT and interpersonal skills with an innovative approach to developing and improving processes and delivery. S/he will have excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to develop collaborative working relationships with a range of stakeholders.
