A-CSEAR aims to foster a supportive and inclusive community of emerging and established scholars investigating research on the social and environmental aspects of accounting theory and practice. The annual A-CSEAR conference provides an international forum in which to showcase this work and to foster much needed interdisciplinary research in accounting.
The A-CSEAR community is a vibrant and diverse group committed to the free exchange of ideas, rigorous debate and support for the growing of research collaborations and opportunities within social and environmental accounting and governance.
Monash Business School looks forward to welcome you all to the 17th Australasian Centre for Social and Environmental Accounting Research (A-CSEAR) Conference and Emerging Scholars’ Colloquium here in Melbourne, Australia. The main conference will be held over three days from 5-7 December 2018. The Emerging Scholars’ Colloquium will be held the day prior on 4 December 2018.
The theme ‘EnVisioning Value’ seeks to explore contemporary accounting practices and concepts including measurement, accountability, transparency and governance, in order to reflect on present-day approaches to, and envision future possibilities for, value creation. Rapid technological advancements in the areas of artificial intelligence, automation and global connectivity are transforming the way human populations live, work and interact with one another and the natural environment. Global initiatives such as the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are also demanding more integrated ways of thinking, moving towards holistic systems design and decision-making.
Developments such as these generate various drivers for change surrounding the types of activities for which the accounting profession will be delivering services and serve to challenge conventional approaches to accounting education. We encourage a broad and inclusive interpretation of ‘EnVisioning Value’. This may include topics and themes relating (but not limited) to the visible and invisible, hopes and prospects, barriers and initiators, alternative and emergent accounts, silences and the marginalised.
To EnVision Value we are incredibly lucky to have pleanary speakers Mervyn King SC, Chairman of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC), London, Professor Judy Brown from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand and dinner speaker 2017 Advance Global Australian Agriculture Award Winner Rosemary Morrow, Blue Mountains Permaculture Institute (BMPI).
A-CSEAR is well known for the inclusive and supportive environment it provides early career researchers to present their research and we are looking forward to welcoming you all to ‘Marvelous Melbourne’ in the summer, December 2018.
