“Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies, Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine” in partnership with Yahad-In Unum (France) announce competition for participation in joint Ukrainian-French educational project devoted to the Holocaust history teaching and studying.

Yahad-In Unum – Paris-based non-profit organization established in 2004 by Father Patrick Desbois and dedicated to systematically identifying and documenting sites of those mass executions committed against the Jews and Roma in Eastern Europe
“Tkuma” Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies – research and educational organization founded in 1999 in Dnipro, aimed at the Holocaust research and education in the context of Ukraine’s history and in comparative context with other genocides, promotion of the atmosphere of inter-ethnic and inter-religious tolerance, counteraction to anti-Semitism and other forms of xenophobia.
Museum “Jewish Memory and Holocaust in Ukraine”, created by Dnipro Jewish Community and “Tkuma” Institute in 2012 in Dnipro, is intended to reflect the depth of the Holocaust tragedy and unique and rich Jewish civilization, which was formed on Ukrainian territory and was almost completely destroyed during World War II, as well as to show dramatic pages of the history of other Ukrainian peoples.

Project.
Teacher training project includes 2 educational seminars “Holocaust by bullets in the occupied territory of the Soviet Union”, held alternately in Ukraine (Dnipro) and France (Paris), with the use of unique methodology “Learn. Teach. Apply”, developed by Yahad-In Unum.
According to this methodology, the seminars will consist of 3 parts:
Learn – provides teachers and educators with knowledge about the victims and the crime;
Teach – provides teachers and educators with practical educational and methodological tools to be used in the classroom;
Apply – provides teachers with knowledge and tools that help make connections between the Holocaust by bullets and other genocides and examine lessons that can be drawn for each and one today.
The first seminar in on the base of “Tkuma” Institute and the Holocaust Museum August 30-31, 2018, proposes condensed historical overview of this unknown chapter of the Holocaust history and provides teachers with practical educational tools to be used in classrooms. The emphasis is put on studying and teaching the Holocaust by Bullets as a crime and on making connections with today’s violence and human rights violations.
The second seminar on the base of Yahad-In Unum in scheduled for 2019 and provides for the deepening of knowledge gained during the first level.

It is obligatory to participate in two seminars.

Target group and selection of participants:
Teachers of history of Ukrainian secondary schools, university professors and graduate students of historical and pedagogical faculties, with teaching experience, specializing in the history of the Holocaust, will be selected on a competitive basis to participate in the program.
Application deadline – July 1 2018.
Participants will be notified about the selection results by August 1, 2018.

The language of the seminars is English.
The organizers provide lodging in double rooms and meals in Dnipro for participants from other cities of Ukraine during the first seminar. The cost of travel tickets, within the cost of a train compartment (not higher than the 2nd class Intercity), will be compensated only if you have originals of both side tickets and under the condition of 100% attendance of the event.
Information on technical aspects of participation in the second seminar in Paris will be provided additionally.
