Faced, for example, with ecological catastrophe, social violence, and plain mortality, those who study philosophy today are often challenged to grapple with issues that test the limits of cognition, emotion, and action. We invite papers from a broad range of subdisciplines and methodologies that approach some of the concepts at the heart of issues of death, decay, and disgust. These could include (but are not limited to) political critique, aesthetic analysis, ethical argument, ontological speculation, or epistemological disquisition. Submissions must directly address one of the three titular themes of the conference. The work submitted should present a developed, well-researched inquiry.
We invite papers on a wide range of topics including:
Death, dying, mortality, finitude
Disgust, abjection, ugliness
Anxiety, forlornness, despair
Submission requirements: Papers of 2500-3000 words, suited for a presentation of 20 minutes. Please send an abstract of no greater than 500 words to email@example.com, along with your name, institutional affiliation, program, and the title of the paper. Please send all files in a .docx format.
