The area includes everything from engineering aspects of manufacturing to assembly of components for functional products and recycling issues associated with these disciplines. The department's staff and students come from all over the world and contribute to a very international environment. The Unit for Manufacturing & Metrology Systems (MMS) works with research, education and policy in the area of Circular Economy, with particular focus on manufacturing industry. The research projects are usually related to highly interdisciplinary areas, such as product design, (business) operations, supply chains and information and communication technology in manufacturing setting. Collaborative projects usually involve academics, public sector and industry partners. The KTH-ITM school has launched a major initiative focusing on circular economy (CE). One step in this initiative is the formation of a multidisciplinary research group focusing on the development of theoretical and applied concepts and solutions to promote the circular economy. Within the program, a number of post-doc positions have been created.

The successful candidate has academic publications in leading scientific peer-reviewed journals, preferably in the area of CE. Furthermore, the ability to generate research ideas and use these ideas in order to create research proposals to secure financial funding is required, as well as having experience from similar activities will be considered during the selection process, which includes:

  • Creation of consortium of relevant research partners
  • Explanation of the problems or ideas in a scientific manner

Finally, the ability to identify relevant stakeholders and disseminate research findings among senior executives and stakeholders from local government and large companies in relevant sectors is crucial.

Knowledge of Swedish is meritorious, as is further European language skills. Knowledge in business models, product design, closed-loop supply chain and information and communication technology relevant to CE will be a plus.
