Job description

The work will be conducted in the group Quantum Nano Photonics at the Quantum and Bio-Photonics Unit at the Department of Applied Physics. The Quantum Nano Photonics group ( consists of around 15 highly motivated people, working in an international and collaborative atmosphere together with the whole unit. We offer access to state-of-the-art quantum optics laboratory with room-temperature and cryogenic photonic probe stations as well as to nanofabrication facilities.

The work will be embedded in the EU Quantum Flagship project “Scalable Two-Dimensional Quantum Integrated Photonics (S2QUIP)”. S2QUIP will develop scalable cost-effective quantum photonic hybrid microsystems by integrating 2D semiconductor materials in CMOS compatible photonic circuits. We will provide the project consortium will active quantum photonic circuitry and designs to deterministically integrate 2D semiconductor materials. The main goal is to achieve several multiplexed quantum light sources on a single chip. The work of the candidate will involve advanced nanofabrication, integrated photonic circuit design, manufacturing and testing of integrated quantum circuits. The candidate will also take part in consortium meetings, discussions and creative problem solving for a successful realization of S2QUIP main objectives.



We are looking for a candidate with a doctoral education (completed in the last three years with some exceptions for special grounds, for instance sick leave and parental leave) in physics, electrical engineering or equivalent. The candidate will be responsible for the design and nanofabrication of silicon-based photonic circuits for quantum optics applications. Thus the candidate should have a strong background in nanofabrication of photonic circuits, including electron beam lithography, various etching techniques, and optical inspection and characterization methods. Furthermore, expertise in circuit design and simulation of the optical properties with e.g. Lumerical or similar software is required.

Interest and fundamental background in on-chip quantum optics is a merit.

The position requires collaborative skills to work in a multi-national consortium. In addition, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required. We are looking for a strongly motivated person, who is able to lead our nanofabrication efforts in the European project.
