The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) is a research and expert organisation of approximately 1,300 people. Our purpose is, by means of research to promote the use of re-newable natural resources as well as the sustainability, profitability and competitiveness of business related to natural resources. Work tasks

As Lukes executive vice president of research was appointed Lukes President and CEO, we are looking for a new EVP of research. 

Being EVP of research, you will be responsible for Lukes research processes, research goals and their impact. You will also prepare Lukes strategic guidelines for research and financial goals. You will build an internationally competitive and ambitious project portfolio and ensure the scientific impact of research. In addition, you will be in charge of guiding Lukes research programmes and implementing research activities. You will work flexibly in a matrix together with heads of research programmes and research managers. Furthermore, you will actively maintain Luke's relationships with scientific stakeholders and act as Lukes representative and link towards stakeholders, funding bodies and research institutions, both nationally and internationally. You will be part of developing Luke into one of the leading bioeconomy research institutions in Europe over the next years. 

You will be a member of Lukes management group and report to the President and CEO.

General requirements

Required qualifications for the position of the EVP of research include a doctoral degree, the diverse experience required for the position and the ability to lead research activities.

Candidates should primarily provide proof of their language skills as stated in Decree 481/2003 (e.g. central government language proficiency certificates, National Certificate of Language Proficiency, or proof of language skills provided in connection with study attainments).

Qualifications

In addition to required qualifications, success in the position requires a strategic vision, broad knowledge of the research field and strong expertise in funding procurement and different financial instruments, both nationally and internationally. 

You are an experienced leader with strong Finnish and international networks, and you have diverse knowledge of the field of bioeconomy. You are bold and excited, and you motivate and inspire others. You want to be a driving force in a matrix, and you want to succeed by helping Lukes researchers to succeed and by improving the impact of research. Success in the position requires good interaction, presentation and organisation skills and an ability to act in a rapidly changing international operating environment. The position also requires excellent English skills.
