Three Postdoc Positions In Beyond 5G Wireless Communication

Country: Finland;

City: Espoo

Vacancy added: 10.10.2018

Employer: Aalto University

Resumes due: 15.11.2018

Three positions for postdoctoral researchers are open at the Department of Communications and networking at Aalto University, Espoo, Finland. The positions are initially filled for 1 year, with a possible extension to a total of 2 years. The funding comes from Academy of Finland research projects. The positions are in

  1. Wireless Caching. Research on collaborative caching in dynamically changing Radio Access Networks is to be performed. Methods based on stochastic geometry, convex optimization and data-driven approaches for learning the network state and network dynamics can be used to approach the problems.
  2. Machine Learning for Massive-MIMO IoT systems.  Research on supporting massive number of devices with massive-MIMO networks is to be performed. Unsupervised Machine Learning methods are used to learn and predict Channel State Information (CSI) governing user connectivity. Connectivity protocols are optimized to exploit CSI prediction. Manifold learning methods can be used to approach the problems. Good understanding of wireless channel properties are required.
  3. Algebraic Methods for Discretization of Compact Manifolds. Research on discretizing unitary groups, as well as covariance matrix and Grassmannian manifolds is to be performed. Algebraic methods based on finite group and field theories as well as discrete symplectic geometry can be applied. Applications are in the domains of massive-MIMO processing, massive machine type communication, quantum communication, and machine learning algorithms.

The work is carried out in a multidisciplinary team comprising several academy and industry funded projects. The successful candidate has a PhD in a suitable field, such as communications, signal processing, computer science, or mathematics. A strong mathematical background is preferable, in addition to domain specific background for the different positions.  PhD students in the final stage of their study (thesis written and defense during first half 2019) will also be considered. The final research scope of the positions will be determined in collaboration with the successful applicants.

The position may start January 1st 2019, but no later than April 30, 2019. The salary of the postdoctoral researcher will be based on the salary system for teaching and research personnel at Aalto University.

Apply by submitting

  • CV

  • Publication list
  • course transcripts from previous degrees (with grades)
  • contact information for two referees

The applications for the position are to be submitted through the eRecruitment system (link 'Apply for this job' below) no later than November 15, 2018.

Aalto University reserves the right for justified reasons to leave the position open, to extend the application period and to consider candidates who have not applied during the application period.
