Researchers interested in the linguistic and historical aspects of news through time, from 1500 to 1945, are invited to submit their proposals on the determining role of context in the production and reception of news texts. The context can be understood as social, political, historical, professional, material and textual, and the focus of the proposal should be on how such a context or contexts have influenced the language and reception of the news texts in question. The texts may relate, for example, to political reporting, cultural and social news, foreign news and war correspondence, financial news, travel news, police and court reports, advertising and sports news.
Different methodological approaches are welcome, including, for example, discourse and content analysis, historical pragmatics, stylistics, sociolinguistics, corpus-assisted discourse analysis, print culture and its effect on language and writing strategies.
