Country: United Kingdom;

Deadline: 04.02.2019

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in The Evolution of HI with the MIGHTEE Survey. The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 3 years.

This project will be to reduce and analyse data from the MeerKAT MIGHTEE survey and measure the evolution of HI using the 3-D cubes. The successful applicant will become a key member of the MIGHTEE collaboration, which has been awarded nearly 2000 hours of telescope time on the MeerKAT telescope. As such they will also have the opportunity to contribute to the wide-ranging science goals of the MIGHTEE survey

The successful candidate will analyse data from the MIGHTEE survey to determine the evolution and distribution of neutral hydrogen in galaxies. Other tasks of the role will include contributing to the MIGHTEE survey collaboration through telecons and meetings, collaborating in the preparation of scientific papers, and publishing the research in refereed journals. The postholder will adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques to meet the goals of the project. The postholder will have the opportunity to teach.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completion of a PhD in astrophysics or a related field and ideally with a background in radio interferometry, 3-D data cube analysis and the use of Bayesian statistics. Experience in the field of multi-wavelength extragalactic survey astronomy will be an advantage. Candidates are expected to demonstrate how they have worked in a team towards a specified goal, and have a publication record commensurate with their experience.

Please direct enquiries about the role to Professor Matt Jarvis ( ).
