Job summary

The GSIC-EMIC research group at the University of Valladolid, Spain, is seeking postdoc candidates to work in the research project CROSS Harmonization & HPC modelization of FOREST Datasets: Cross-Forest, funded by the European Commission.

Cross-Forest aims to develop a service-oriented infrastructure to provide forestry evolution models. The foundations of the services will be forestry and GIS datasets from Portugal and Spain.

Cross-Forest will create models to forecast wood quality in mixed forests on big surfaces by using data from the Spanish and Portuguese forest inventories, as well as observational data, mainly Airborne Laser Scanning. The aim is to facilitate a dynamic information platform to improve commercial promotion of wood to fit end users interests (i.e., wood for wine barrels, biomass production, and raw material for Composite Laminated Timber).

Role of the candidate

The postdoc will work in the data infrastructure activity in Cross-Forest. The postdoc will be mainly in charge of developing an ontology of forest inventories, as well as the translation of forest data into RDF, according to the ontologies developed and reused in Cross-Forest.
