The School of Computing has a long-standing reputation in Artificial Intelligence research and education. Our research is broadly based, covering several areas of robotics and artificial intelligence. Through this diversity we are playing a leading role in the global trend towards the re-integration of artificial intelligence, particularly in developing synergies between the areas of computer vision, knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning, robotics, bio-inspired systems, natural language processing, and augmentation of human intelligence. The University is a partner in The Alan Turing Institute, the national institute for data science and artificial Intelligence, with the mission to make great leaps in research to change the world for the better.

This position is part of a strategic initiative to extend the depth and breath of our actvity across the University, through collaboration with other disciplinary areas, including medicine, engineering, finance, environmental sciences, and humanities. This recognises the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in many areas of academic research, particularly through the application of deep learning and others areas of machine learning. For this reason, we particularly welcome applications from researchers working in the area of machine learning.

Career Pathway:

Tenure track equivalent post requiring successful completion of a 5 year development plan, leading to appointment to a grade 9 Associate Professor, with the potential for accelerated progression.
