Employer:

Vacancy type: PostDoc vacancy;

The position is envisioned for up to 3-4 years.

The Cartilage Engineering Unit at the University Hospital Basel in Switzerland is currently seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to work on the generation and validation of three-dimensional in vitro models of human cartilage and osteochondral tissues with the final goal to identify new anti-osteoarthritic therapeutic strategies. The Cartilage Engineering Unit, directed by Prof. Andrea Barbero, is part of the Tissue Engineering Group led by Prof. Ivan Martin and comprises an interdisciplinary team with expertise in the biological and engineering sciences, as well as in clinical studies. The group has strong collaborations with both academic and industrial partners worldwide.

Your position
In the context of a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and Cariplo Foundation, the Postdoctoral Research Fellow is expected to be responsible for a challenging project at the interface between tissue engineering and in vitro disease modeling. The project will be carried out in in close collaboration with the Biomechanics group led by Dr. Marco Rasponi at the Politecnico of Milano (Italy). The program aims at generating 3D in vitro models of healthy and osteoarthritic cartilage. The generated tissues will be then used as models to screen for bioactive molecules with anti-osteoarthritic effects and dissecting mechanisms responsible for the pathology onset

Your profile

  • 0-4 years postdoctoral experience
  • Experience in the field of osteoarthritis is an important asset
  • Experience in Tissue Engineering/Regenerative Medicine/3D models is a plus, but not imperative
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
  • Outstanding motivation and capacity to work in interdisciplinary teams
  • Supervising skills (for Master students, MDs and PhD students)

We offer you
The Department of Biomedicine offers an excellent research environment with world-class research facilities, ideal for building a scientific career. The city of Basel, located on the borders of both France and Germany, is one of leading pharmaceutical and biotechnological centers in the world.
