An opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow within the Division of Plant and Crop Sciences, School of Biosciences. The Research Fellow will assist in the analysis of gene expression in Arabidopsis plants with reduced levels of messenger RNA methylation. Duties will include the use of radionucleotide labelling approaches for measuring RNA methylation levels, propagation, crossing and analysis of mutant Arabidopsis plant lines and the design of reporter gene constructs for use in plant transformation.  

Applicants must have a PhD in relevant plant molecular biology related area, together with documented experience in the use of radionucleotides for nucleic acid labelling and detection and expertise in the detection and quantification of modified nucleotides in RNA.  A strong background and expertise in plant genetics, good oral and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate with clarity on complex information and the ability to contribute to method improvement are all essential requirements for the role.  Candidates must also have experience in both plant transformation and RNA modification detection approaches.

This full-time post is offered on a fixed term contract for 8 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.
