Project description

The project will focus on halophytes processing to produce high-value, pure bioproducts used in pharma and food industry. Main activities will include separation and purification of protein and lipid fractions, as well as optimization of these processes, including scale-up and design. Additionally, extraction of bioactive phytochemicals and their analysis will be performed.

Candidate’s profile:

  • Doctorate in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Technology or other related to the field of bioprocessing and bioproducts, obtained before June 2017
  • At least 2 years experience in the related field (after obtaining the PhD degree)
  • Experience in analysis, extraction and pretreatment of protein and lipids
  • Very good knowledge of operation of analytical instruments such as HPLC-RID/UV/MS and GC-MS/FID, preferably in the context of food and/or biomass analysis
  • Experience in performing computer-aided optimization and design, as well as statistical analyses (including tools such as ApenPlus, Design Expert, etc.)
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).

Main responsibilities:

  • Optimization of protein and lipid fractions separation and purification (including design and scale-up of the optimized processes), working with liquid and solid samples
  • Extraction and purification of phytochemicals (from liquid and solid samples)
  • Developing analytical methods for protein, lipids, phytochemicals with the use of HPLC-UV/RID/MS, GC-MS/FID as well as traditional screening techniques (TLC, colorimetry)
  • Being involved in laboratory management and maintenance of the equipment
  • Writing reports, laboratory protocols and research articles
  • Supervising and training the students
