  • Research
    • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research.
    • Research topic: research in the field of the nutrition and digestive physiology of the pig, focused on integration of data of animal observations (human and technological measurements) and physiological variables to monitor and modulate processes.
    • You will counsel doctoral students, and employing your extensive knowledge of animal production and strong interest in data management and -analysis you will support various research projects within the department.
    • Active role in pursuing funding for research and exploration of funding opportunities.
  • Education
    • You will assist in teaching activities related to animal production at the Bachelor’s or Master’s level. Teaching activities are mainly, but not exclusively, in the Dutch language.
    • You will counsel Master’s students in their exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation.
  • Scientific services
    • You will actively support scientific services within the department and maintain national and international contacts in the aforementioned domain.


  • You hold a doctoral degree in Applied Biological Sciences or in Veterinary Sciences or an by the selection commission considered equivalent degree at the start of the function.

For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.

  • You have already conducted research within the field of animal production. Experience in research on nutrition and digestive physiology in the pig is an important asset.
  • You have a strong interest in data management and analysis.
  • You have distinguished yourself as a promising researcher in your doctorate.
  • You are profoundly interested in coaching students in the Bachelor’s, Master’s and/or Advanced Master’s programmes.
  • You may present relevant scientific publications in (inter)national peerreviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated. You actively participated in international symposia in the field of animal production.
  • You have experience and strong interest for scientific collaboration on national and international level, and you are a teamplayer.
  • You have adequate knowledge of the Dutch and English language needed for educational purposes.


  • We offer you a three-year appointment, which may be renewed once for three years at the most, on condition that the previous term was given a positive evaluation. The term of renewal begins immediately after the first term has expired. Attention: If you have been previously appointed as a postdoctoral assistant at a university within the Flemish Community, you cannot apply for this position.
  • Your appointment will start on 1 October 2019 at the earliest.
