Contemporary Narrative Theory Panelists
Elizabeth Anker is associate professor at Cornell University whose interests include postcolonial studies, human rights, law and literature, and narrative studies. Dr. Anker’s works include Fictions of Dignity: Embodying Human Rights in the Postcolonial Novel (Cornell University Press, 2012), as well as publications in New Literary History and American Literary History.
Adam Newton is University Professor and Ronald P. Stanton Chair in Literature and Humanities at Yeshiva University with teaching and research interests in the areas of narrative theory and poetics, literary theory and the history of criticism, and the ethics of reading and ethical criticism. Dr. Newton’s publications include Narrative Ethics (Harvard University Press, 1995) and his most recent book The Elsewhere: On Belonging at a Near Distance (Wisconsin University Press, 2005).
Henrik Nielsen is professor in the Department of Aesthetics and Communication at Aarhus University. Dr. Nielsen has published extensively and edited numerous collections of essays on narrative theory. His most recent collection A Poetics of Unnatural Narrative (Ohio State University Press), edited alongside Jan Alber and Brian Richardson, appeared in 2013.
Srinivas Aravamudan is professor and Dean of the Humanities at Duke University specializing in British literature, eighteenth century literature, postcolonial literature, and critical theory. Dr. Aravamudan’s latest book, Enlightenment Orientalism: Resisting the Rise of the Novel was published in 2012 by the University of Chicago Press.
Claudia Breger is professor of Germanic Studies and Chair of Gender Studies at Indiana University with research interests in the areas of twentieth and twenty-first century literature, film and culture, in addition to literary, media, and cultural theory. Dr. Breger has published books in both English and German, with her most recent book An Aesthetics of Narrative Performance: Transnational Theater, Literature and Film in Contemporary Germany (Ohio State University Press) appearing in 2012.
Nancy Easterlin is University Research Professor and professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of New Orleans. Dr. Easterlin’s publications include the books Wordsworth and the Question of “Romantic Religion” (Bucknall, 1996) and A Biocultural Approach to Literary Theory and Interpretation (Johns Hopkins, 2012), for which she received a Guggenheim Fellowship.
