The 20th Conference on Atmospheric and Oceanic Fluid Dynamics (AOFD), sponsored by the American Meteorological Society and organized by the AMS Committee on Atmospheric and Oceanic Fluid Dynamics, will be held 15-19 June 2015 at the Commons Hotel in Minneapolis, MN. Preliminary general information on the meeting is currently available on the AMS website (PAGE). Program and registration details will be posted on that same page in mid-March 2015.
Papers are solicited in all areas of atmospheric and oceanic fluid dynamics spanning theory, observations, and modeling. We especially welcome papers describing idealized or process-based modeling studies. Three special sessions are planned on (1) Atmosphere-ocean-ice interactions, (2) Coupling between moisture, clouds and circulation, and (3) Research inspired by the accomplishments of Peter Rhines. Final session topics will be based on the number and topics of abstracts received.
The deadline for abstract submission is 2 February 2015. An abstract fee of $95 (payable by credit card or purchase order) is charged at the time of submission (refundable only if abstract is not accepted). Authors of accepted presentations will be notified via e-mail in mid-March 2015. Instructions for formatting extended abstracts will be posted on the AMS website. Extended manuscripts (file size up to 3 MB) must be submitted electronically by 19 July 2015. All abstracts, extended abstracts, and presentations will be made available on the AMS website. For further program information please contact the program chairpersons: Gang Chen, Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Cornell University, Ithaca NY, email email@example.com, tel. 607-255-1503; Tiffany A. Shaw, Department of Earth and Environmental Science & Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics, Columbia University, New York NY, email firstname.lastname@example.org, tel. 212-851-5935; Leif Thomas, Department of Environmental Earth System Science, Stanford University, Stanford CA, email email@example.com, tel. 650-721-1140; Andrew F. Thompson, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena CA, email firstname.lastname@example.org, tel. 626-395-8345
Travel funding is available for student participants for expenses to and from the conference and lodging in Minneapolis, MN. The awardee may not receive any concurrent travel support from the AMS (e.g., an AMS travel grant). The selected students will be required to pay for any travel up-front, and be reimbursed by AMS (Jennifer Ives, email@example.com) with the proper receipts after the conference. To apply, students should prepare a short written statement (no more than one page) declaring their financial need and circumstance, relevance of their research to the conference, and their background. Applicants should also provide a copy of their abstract for the meeting. Applications should be sent in pdf format via email to Jennifer Ives (firstname.lastname@example.org). Applications will be accepted through 1 April 2015 and all applicants will be notified of their application status on or before 15 April 2015. Any questions or inquiries from interested applicants should be directed to the conference chairpersons.
