Applications are invited for a 3-yr. PhD studentship to be hosted within the Northumbria iSchool (Department of Mathematics & Information Sciences, Northumbria University, Newcastle, England)

Due to the recent developments in knowledge organization and semantic web technologies linking of research content and research data has been a major area of interest. In this PhD, the student will work towards developing a novel approach for linking research content and data by combining various conventional knowledge organization techniques and the emerging database, web and mobile technologies.

The candidate will work in a vibrant research environment within the newly established iSchool at Northumbria University, and will contribute to the knowledge of linked content and linked data.

Required qualifications:
A good Honours- or Masters-level degree in Information Science, Information Systems or allied disciplines.

Desirable knowledge:
1. Good understanding of various knowledge organization and retrieval technologies and tools, and some knowledge of web technologies and tools such as xml, RDF, APIs, etc.
2. Good written and oral communication skills

Eligibility Criteria:
Students who are not UK/EU residents are eligible to apply, provided they hold the relevant academic qualifications, together with an IELTS score of at least 6.5.

Funding Notes:

The candidate will receive a tax-free maintenance grant per annum (currently £13,863) and full fee remittance.
