We are pleased formally to invite you to participate in the XIIIth International Symposium on Biomineralization (BiominXIII) that will take place from 16th to 19th of September 2015 in the Parque de las Ciencias in Granada, Spain.

This congress is a new edition of the Biomin meetings, which have been celebrated periodically worldwide since 1970 (Mainz, Germany), with further past meetings held in Georgetown (USA, 1974), Kashikojima (Japan, 1977), Amsterdam (Holland, 1982), Arlington (USA, 1986), Odawara (Japan, 1990), Monaco (1993), Niigata (Japan, 2001), Pucón (Chile, 2005), Lianyungang (China, 2008), Noosa (Australia, 2011), and Freiberg (Germany, 2013). This symposium series has been consolidated through 45 years of tradition, during which time interest in biomineralization has been rising in many different fields of science, ranging from palaeontology to nanobiomaterials. Throughout all of these editions, the scope of the meeting has become increasingly multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary.

The meeting in Granada promises to be a stimulating and fruitful symposium. The exchange of ideas, strategies, techniques and collaborations, and the development of productive international collaborations are some of the aims of this congress. This meeting will be a good opportunity to explore, discuss and exchange scientific works with the worldwide community. On the other hand, we intend to provide an overview of the state of art of the various branches of biomineralization in order to promote scientific and academic vocations to students and young scientists. We hence invite you to submit novel scientific contributions related to the main topics of this symposium:

Biomineralization and the structure of biominerals
Analytical techniques and methods in biomineralization
    Bioinspired materials and applications
    Biomimetic synthesis
    Modelling in biomineralization
    Pathological biomineralization
    Genetics and biomineralization

Granada is a renowned crucible of cultures and civilizations and a meeting point of scientific discoveries in mathematics, alchemy, medicine, astronomy, and philosophy. The city conserves historic monuments such as the famed Alhambra Palace. This symposium, therefore, offers the opportunity to enjoy several days at the leading edge of biomineralization research in the congenial atmosphere of the beautiful city of Granada.
