Duties and responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief, Monitoring and Data Analysis Section, International Data Centre (IDC) Division, to:

  • Perform interactive analysis of radionuclide data as required, including the analysis of gamma and beta-gamma spectra from particulate and noble gas detection stations, and review the work of other analysts;
  • Contribute to and actively participate in the training, coaching and certification of radionuclide analysts;
  • Assist in the organization and optimization and the coordination of schedules for analysts’ tasks to ensure efficient and timely production of reviewed IDC products in the radionuclide technologies;
  • Recommend and implement plans to enhance procedures, rules and guidelines for analysts’ tasks and for analysts’ certification;
  • Support the trainees from States Signatories in coordination with the Capacity Building Section of the IDC;
  • Support the testing and evaluation of the International Monitoring Systems' radionuclide stations’ certification procedure;
  • Support the testing and evaluation of the IDC applications software in coordination with the Scientific Applications Section of the IDC;
  • Interact as necessary with other sections and units in order to ensure smooth implementation of the operational tasks;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in nuclear science with a strong background in gamma and beta spectroscopy and radiation detection methods, or relevant experience in radionuclide data analysis;
  • At least three years relevant working experience preferably part of which should have been in an international environment, with radionuclide spectra analysis, air monitoring, detection equipment, and environmental influences on radionuclide monitoring. A basic knowledge of LINUX operating systems and SQL;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are essential. Working knowledge of one of the other official languages of the CTBTO Preparatory Commission is an asset.
