Rechargeable Li-ion batteries (LIBs) are omnipresent in our daily life powering the portable electronics and the emerging plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. Nevertheless, the energy and power density of current LIBs can still not meet the increasing demand for high performance batteries. The nanomaterials have emerged as a promising solution to resolve many fundamental problems of battery materials in recent years, which play important roles in realizing high capacity and high rate performance LIBs, while; on the other hand, increasing side reactions are triggered as well upon the reduction of electrode particle size. Therefore, evaluation of the contribution of nanomaterials should be done carefully.

This special issue aims to highlight original researches covering the current progress of electrode/electrolyte with a broad range of subjects on nanotechnology, nanostructure, and nanomaterial for LIBs; both research and review contributions are welcome warmly.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

    Synthesis and characterization of nanomaterials for LIBs
    Physicochemistry characterization on electrode materials
    Size effect of electrode materials on electrochemistry
    Interfacial issue in electrodes
    Solid electrolyte and solid state battery
    Development on electrochemical characterization methods/tools
    Theoretical simulations on Li storage and transport
