One of the critical challenges for successful carbon capture Carbon Storage Reservoirand storage (CCS) programs is to reliably and economically predict long-term behavior of CO2 in potential storage reservoirs. As with hydrocarbon reservoirs, assessment of CO2 storage reservoirs requires integration of several disciplines and multiple data sets. Geologic conceptual modeling, well log analysis, petrophysics and rock-physics modeling, and seismic reservoir characterization provide important foundational data. Geochemical understanding of interactions among rock, water and CO2, fluid-flow simulations of CO2 injection, and structural and geomechanical analysis of the sealing are also key components. The special section will include new methodologies, modeling workflows, and case studies.
The editors of Interpretation invite papers on the topic Multidisciplinary studies for geologic and geophysical characterization of CO2 storage reservoirs for publication in a November 2017 special section to supplement the journal's regular technical papers on various subject areas.
