The hydrologic cycle plays a critical role in interpreting the physical functioning of the earth system. Recently, hydrometeorological variables including soil moisture and evapotranspiration (ET) have shown high sensitivity in accordance with the acceleration of anthropogenic climate change including surface warming and greenhouse effects. These variations are directly interconnected with the occurrence of the extreme climate conditions such as severe drought, heatwave, and extreme flooding. Thus, many researchers put endless efforts for the accurate estimation of the spatiotemporal variation of hydrometeorological variables by utilizing the state-of-the-art remote sensing technique.

The main scope of this special issue will be focused on the contribution of recent advances in application of remote-sensing technique in hydrometeorological field, especially for the accurate estimation of soil moisture and ET and its application to operational hydrology.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

    Hydrometeorology analysis focusing on soil moisture or ET using remote-sensing technique with ground based observation
    Innovative physical or empirical approaches to obtain more accurate information about the spatiotemporal variation of ET and soil moisture
    Interconnection between the variation of hydrometeorological variables and occurrence of extreme climate conditions including severe drought and extreme flood
