By the end of 2020, there will be over 15 billion connected devices in IoT. Of those, approximately one-third will be critically dependent on geolocation data, and 60% will potentially include GeoData in the application.
These Machina Research estimates, revealed at Geo IoT World 2016, give an idea of the importance of the “Geo IoT” market addressed by the conference.
Knowing LOCATION and CONTEXT of sensors and devices increases the benefits of IoT and opens unlimited new use cases to enhance customers’ experience, improve service quality, reduce operational expenses and risks, etc.  across every sector.
In its second edition, Geo IoT World will explore further the power of location at the intersection of IoT and analytics.
Geo IoT in 2017
The prospects for Geo IoT innovation in 2017 are very exciting. Indoors, the new breed of radio technologies keeps its promise for RTLS (Real-Time Locating Systems). The UWB (Ultra-wideband) radio technology offers great opportunities to deploy high-accuracy low-cost indoor location in a broad range of applications. The Bluetooth LE – Beacons market is also finally taking off thanks in particular to Apple’s iBeacon and Google’s Eddystone protocols wide availability.
Meanwhile, the LPWA (Low-Power Wide-Area) networks wave keep flowing, allowing a true mass-market for low-cost long-range geo-aware IoT scenarios. High precision GNSS is also becoming the next big thing, boosted by the upcoming Galileo-based location technologies & services. Low-cost, precision, global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) receivers will become a reality in the driverless cars, drones, and even smartphone markets by 2021 has announced ABI Research.
New use cases are also booming when location meets Big Data, by monetizing the massive historical and real-time datasets of location points (devices, people, vehicles…).
All these disruptive technologies, often combined each other, will be on the agenda of Geo IoT World 2017. The hottest trends, the most inspiring use cases and best practices to implement them will add concrete expertise for successful innovative location/tracking/navigation applications and services. Join our geo-aware innovators line-up!
