ARE YOU ATTRACTED BY THE DEVELOPMENT AND QUALIFICATION OF SIMULATION METHODS? THE DEPARTMENT OF »MATHEMATICAL METHODS IN DYNAMICS AND DURABILITY« AT FRAUNHOFER ITWM IS OFFERING A DIVERSIFIED EMPLOYMENT AS

The department »Mathematical Methods in Dynamics and Durability« works on modeling and simulation methods for virtual product development of vehicles. A main topic in this regard is the simulation of the external interaction of construction and agricultural machines with soil and material. We develop and implement new modeling and simulation methods and apply and qualify these methods in projects with leading industry partners. 

What we expect from you

  • Superior university degree, preferably with PhD, in Mechanical Engineering, (Applied) Mathematics or Physics
  • Competence in (technical) mechanics, numerics and scientific computing
  • Advanced programming knowledge (MATLAB, C/C++, Fortran)
  • Experience in the field of modelling and measurement technology
  • Capability to manage industrial and research projects 

What you can expect from us
We are looking for an engineer or applied mathematician, preferably with PhD, strengthening our team with contributions to the following activities:

  • Development and qualification of simulation methods for soil and granular media to support virtual product development of construction and agricultural machinery
  • Development and implementation of particle simulation methods (DEM, SPH, CCP)
  • Numerical methods / parallelization / HPC
  • Coupling with system and structural simulation (MBS, FEM)
  • Acquisition and management of projects 

Appointment, remuneration and social security benefits base on the public-sector collective wage agreement (TVöD). Additionally, Fraunhofer may grant performance-based variable remuneration components.
The working time consists of 39 hours per week.
The position is initially limited for 2 years.
