This seminar seeks to explore the dialectical relationship between recent geopolitical crises and people’s responses to them. Once previous hermeneutical and epistemological frameworks and tools no longer work, global citizens need to devise original technologies to respond to and understand what are perceived as radically new experiences.
Given the intrinsically interdisciplinary––yet broad––nature of our topic, we seek proposals from specialists who, despite coming from diverse backgrounds, are interested in the analysis of cultural representations of, and reactions to, 20th and 21st-century historically-charged events. The dialogue among our various theoretical approaches will help us accomplish our multifaceted goal of providing provisional but thorough answers to the following questions:
-Are particular genres or mediums of expression created or privileged in, during, or after contingent and traumatic events, such as dictatorships, wars, or exiles, among many others? Which ones? And why?
-How do subjects re-position and re-invent themselves in such circumstances? How do they relate to one another in the local sphere when global borders and power dynamics are altered, or vice versa?
-What kind of philosophical, epistemological, and discursive re-conceptualizations have or need still to be developed in order to better approach and comprehend these crises?
