It’s that time of year again! We are excited to announce the Call for Papers for the 2019 SCA annual conference. The 53rd Annual Meeting will be held at the DoubleTree Hilton, Sacramento, California from Thursday, March 7th through Sunday, March 10th. Below, we’ve put together a brief update on conference planning to date as well as the formal call for papers.

Our theme for 2019 is “Women in Archaeology,” to highlight the role of women, past and present, in the development of our field, from a range of aspects including methods, theory, fieldwork, contributions to major research questions, and management and protection of archaeological resources. As well as honoring the role of female researchers, our theme discusses developments in engendered archaeological and anthropological study, and aspects of intersectionality such as age, class, ethnicity, and power that have shaped the societal roles of women in the past. In keeping with the theme, we would love to have a diversity of sessions on all aspects of archaeological and anthropological work, preservation, and public outreach, as well as novel and innovative research studies and findings.

We are open to innovative symposium topics or formats. If you have any ideas about getting away from the standard 15-minute talk format, we’d love to talk to you about them and figure out how we can make them happen.
