The Université catholique de Louvain invites applications for a tenure track or tenured part time position in Public finance law

Introduction

UCLouvain is a comprehensive university offering, in the context of the present position, the opportunity of cross-disciplinary research and teaching collaborations. The position is attached to the Faculty of Law and Criminology and the Institut pour la recherche interdisciplinaire en sciences juridiques which offer opportunities for diverse and stimulating teaching as well as an environment to carry out ambitious research. Description of the mission

Teaching 

The successful candidate will be in charge of teaching introductory as well as specialization courses in the field of public finance law in the various teachings programs provided by the Faculty of Law and Criminology or by other Faculties. He or she will demonstrate his or her capability to master the various dimensions of law of public finance (e.g. European Union finances and European control of national budgets, State/regional/local authorities accounting law, budgetary law, litigation aspects) and to combine them with other areas of law, in order to point out interactions and synergies.

He or she could further be in charge of teaching courses of positive law being part of his/her other areas of specialization. The successful candidate can also be requested to teach general legal courses within the Faculty of Law and Criminology as well as other faculties.

He or she will be expected to demonstrate his or her ability to teach both introductory and specialized courses in the field of Public finance law. Particular attention will be paid to the successful candidate’s ability to develop in his or her teachings strong links with European law, constitutional law, administrative law, tax law, public politics law, as well as to identify and focus on the foundations of Public finance law.  He or she is therefore expected to demonstrate high-quality teaching skills.

Research 

The successful candidate will pursue critical academic research on the legal sources, the organisation, the implementation and the control of public finance (at different levels of government, whether European, federal, regional and local), in relation to constitutional law, tax law and administrative law.

He or she is expected to demonstrate his or her ability to engage in individual and collective research projects developing a critical understanding of public finance, in relation to one or other fields of law in which he or she has developed a high degree of expertise and critical thinking. He or she will demonstrate a high level of critical research related to public finance law.

He or she will be expected to take part in and manage ongoing collective research projects and to initiate new research projects. Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to conduct critical research in public finance law with the support of other fields of law and conversely, to stimulate research in other legal disciplines. He or she should further demonstrate his or her ability to integrate JUR-I.

General conditions

Tasks : the applicant will:
- be responsible for teaching courses at all study levels (i.e. undergraduate and postgraduate), as well as in programmes of continuing education;
- supervise the final diploma research (i.e. theses) of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as PhD theses;
- be involved in (and/or supervise, promote) research programmes;
- contribute to the international visibility of the University through teaching and research excellence;
- be available to ensure, in the long term, different service activities and responsibilities within the University and its entities. 
- contribute to activities of the University with a societal impact in the fields of the economy, socio-cultural changes or cooperation with developing countries.

Qualifications : the applicant must have
- a PhD degree in Law or in an other field related to Public finance;
- a significant scientific record with international publications;
- either  studied abroad for an extensive period or have had substantial experience outside UCLouvain;
- experience in and the aptitude for teaching at university level, demonstrated if possible by formal assessments;
- the capacity to work within a team of teachers and to integrate research findings into teaching;
- creativity and must be open to teaching innovation and interdisciplinarity;
- the capacities required to undertake high-level academic research:capacity to raise research fundings, to supervise projects, to animate and lead a research team;
- have team management and communication skills, including if possible fluency in French and English, spoken and written. Otherwise, you will be asked to acquire them within two years after taking office, in order to be able to communicate and teach in these languages. Knowledge of other languages is an additional asset.
