We are pleased to announce that the 8th International Conference on Austroasiatic Linguistics (ICAAL8) will be held in Chiang Mai (Thailand) August 29-31, 2019, hosted by The Myanmar Center at the Faculty of Humanities, Chiang Mai University.
This biennial conference brings together scholars working on all aspects of AA languages and linguistics.
Call for Papers:
Panels / Workshops: we call upon interested participants to propose programmatically oriented panels / workshops, ideally consisting of 4~5 presentations plus time for mediated discussion. A workshop on AA comparative clause structure is already planned. Proposals for panels / workshops should be submitted by their conveners no later than 21 January 2019. Proposals should include: title, 200 word rationale, names of any proposed participants (final list not required at initial proposal). Conveners will be responsible for selection and coordination of participants within their respective panels / workshops. The organizers may refer unsolicited abstracts to conveners.
Scope: Continuing the practice of recent ICAAL workshops and meetings, we welcome contributions from outside of AA studies that bring relevant areal and historical perspectives. The conference general session is open to presentations covering diverse topics, including but not restricted to: syntax, phonology, morphology, lexicon, contact, language use, classification, historical linguistics and reconstruction, endangerment and documentation.
