We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position with our Chemical and Fuel Cycle Technologies Division (CFC).

In this role with the guidance from a mentor, you will:

  • Perform work in the field of molten salt electrochemistry, contributing to the development of technologies relevant to advanced nuclear power systems (molten salt reactors and fuel reprocessing).
  • Measure and assess fundamental salt chemistry properties (including thermodynamic, kinetic, and mass transfer parameters) for high temperature halide salts.
  • Develop electrochemical sensors to measure essential salt properties in molten salt flow loops.
  • Develop and demonstrate methods for corrosion control in molten salt systems.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, peers, and Laboratory management through research reports, project presentations, and other regular channels.
  • Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, attend and make presentations at scientific meetings.
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of pertinent literature.
  • Develop new ideas, concepts, and/or research proposals to build programmatic growth and intellectual property for the Division.

Position RequirementsWe expect you to have:

  • Experience with fundamental electrochemistry and applied electrochemical techniques.
  • Knowledge of electroanalytical measurements.
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written).
  • Direct experience with high-temperature molten salt systems, electrochemical corrosion, and/or materials science is desired, but not mandatory.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position.
  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in chemical engineering or a related field at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience.
