A position is open for a talented, proactive postdoctoral researchers to work on an exciting interdisciplinary project funded by the Medical Research Council to address a mechanisms driving idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. This post will be based in Nottingham on the University Park Campus at the Centre for Biomolecular Sciences. The project builds on current work within the Hannan Lab developing induced pluripotent stem cell models of respiratory disease using reprogramming and CRISPR/Cas9 techniques. The project will combine stem cell technology, 3D-hydrogels tissue culture and respiratory differentiation techniques to understand how genetics, inflammation, respiratory infections and extracellular matrix remodelling individually and in combination contribute to the initiation and progression of pulmonary fibrosis.

The successful candidate for this post will have recently completed or hold a PhD and will combine excellence in research, collaboration, communication and meeting deadlines. It is a particular need for the project that that candidate has a strong background expertise in molecular biology, evaluating ER-stress, reporter plasmid design, transfection techniques, cell phenotyping, tissue sectioning and staining, CRISPR design and gene editing techniques, western blotting as well as an ability to learn rapidly new techniques with equipment they have not used previously. This may include, for example, skills in qPCR / RNA profiling, high content imaging (e.g. confocal plate reader), cell metabolism assays, ELISA, evaluation of mitochondrial respiration, 3D organoid culture and hydrogel preparation and manipulation.

Full details are in the job specification.

This full time post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 36 months. It is essential that the candidate is available to start the post on 2 September 2019 or within two weeks thereafter.
