Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate to work in the group of Dr Michael Cowley on a research project funded by the European Research Council. The project concerns synthesis and reactivity of low-coordinate and/or low oxidation state group 13 compounds and their reactivity towards E-H bond activation. The appointment will be for an initial fixed-term period of 18 months, with the possibility to extend.

You can find out more about the Cowley research group at

You should have a PhD in inorganic chemistry, or have submitted your thesis prior to taking up your appointment. You will have a strong background in synthetic inorganic chemistry, with expertise in the synthesis and characterisation of air- and moisture-sensitive materials using Schlenk and glovebox techniques. You should also be able to design and execute new synthetic schemes and possess a strong appreciation of inorganic and/or organometallic chemistry. Some understanding of, or a willingness to learn, aspects of DFT calculations is desirable but not essential.

The post will be based in the School of Chemistry, and is available from 1st October 2019, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Fixed Term: 18 months starting after 1st October 2019.

Salary: £33,797 - £40,322 per annum.
