Applications are invited for the post of Chemistry Student Experience Teaching Fellow in the Department of Chemistry at University College London. We currently teach ~600 undergraduates registered in Chemistry as well as students who select Chemistry on the Natural Sciences programme and first year Chemistry for life scientists. We are anticipating a substantially larger intake of 1st year students in the coming year. The department also offers a number of Postgraduate Taught Masters courses with ~100 students per year. We are adapting our delivery across our programmes in response to the Covid-19 emergency.

The postholder will become a member of the Teaching and Learning support team, which includes five Teaching Fellows currently, and will contribute significantly to enhancing the student experience in the Department. They will undertake appropriate teaching duties within the Department at undergraduate and masters level, appropriate to the background and experience of the appointee.

The Chemistry Student Experience Teaching Fellow will also develop and lead a range of initiatives to enhance the learning experience of students in the department. This will include: academic and pastoral support; cohort building; the shift to remote delivery and learning; and overall to achieve desired connected learning outcomes. They will be supported by a Student Support Officer currently being recruited.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Chemistry or relevant related discipline, experience in teaching chemistry, and developing initiatives to enhance the student experience at undergraduate or postgraduate degree level. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, good interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to staff and students in a teaching and learning context. Enthusiasm to acquire new work-related skills and a commitment to keeping skills and knowledge up to date is also an essential requirement.
