At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Energy Technology, a position as Associate Professor in Electrical Machines and drives is open for appointment from 1 July 2021 or soon hereafter. Workplace is Aalborg. The Department of Energy Technology is an expanding department covering most fields of Energy Technology ranging from electrical energy (Power Systems, Power Electronics, Electrical Machines) to thermal energy including Energy Systems and Fluid Mechanics and Combustion but also mechatronic systems. The department has about 300 employees – out of them are more than 125 Ph.D. students. The laboratory-facilities are world-class and the research carried out are most often in collaboration with industry.

Job description

The position is offered in relation to the research program "E-Mobility and Industrial Drives" and the associate professor will be positioned to the section for Electrical Machines.

Research areas will be within electrical machines and drives, with specific focus on electrical machine design, design and control of machine drive system, sensorless control, and development of machine drive platform. Strong background knowledge in electromagnetism, power electronics, and control theory is required. 

Successful application prerequisites that the applicant demonstrates a documented expertise in:

•    Modelling, analysis and design of various types of electrical machines
•    Development and implementation of various types of control schemes for machine drive system
•    Development and implementation of various position sensorless algorithms
•    Comprehensive understanding of power electronic devices and low cost drive systems 
•    Design and build of machine drive platform using microcontrollers and digital controller
•    Experimental work and validation of simulation models
•    Simulation/programming languages: Matlab/Simulink, PLECS, C or C++
•    Electromagnetic field finite element analysis: VF-Opera, Comsol.
