Organizational Setting:

Within the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Applications the Physics Section is responsible for the Sub-programme 1.4.4 on Nuclear Fusion Research managed by the Section Head through a Technical Officer (Fusion and Plasma Physics Specialist). The incumbent will be under the supervision of and reporting to the Technical Officer in the duty of helping to conduct activities pertaining to projects under the Sub-programme.

Purpose of Consultancy:

The fusion expert will support the implementation of activities under Project 1.4.4.1 and Project 1.4.4.2 that have grown in proportion since the establishment of the ITER International Organization and the induced increased level of related activities in Member States. In particular, he/she will contribute to the preparation of technical reports and planning and implementation of Technical Meetings.

Role:

The fusion expert is a Scientist contributing to the implementation of programme activities related to fostering international collaboration in nuclear fusion research and the exchange of scientific and technical information.

Functions/Key Results Expected:
  • To contribute and participate in the planning and implementation of Technical Meetings on topics related to thermonuclear fusion research;
  • To contribute to the preparation and publication of technical reports and meetings’ proceedings on topics relevant to thermonuclear fusion research: i) analyse and compile materials for publication, ii) draft executive summary, iii) obtained all necessary clearances and initiate submission of the publication to the Publications Committee;
  • To contribute to the organization of the Fusion Energy Conference: i) collect and prepare book of synopses, ii) collect, edit and prepare book of abstracts, iii) prepare the programme booklet;
  • To contribute to the preparation and dissemination of ITER-related scientific and technical documents and publications by providing technical advice as well as editorial support.
Qualifications and Experience
  • University degree in Nuclear Sciences with strong emphasis on Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion. An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) is an advantage;
  • At least 2 years of experience in Thermonuclear Fusion Research;
  • Language: English; Proficiency required: fluent in speaking and writing;
  • Good scientific communication capability and skills for writing technical reports are essential.
