On behalf of the Czechoslovak Microscopy Society, it is my great pleasure to invite you to Prague which will host the International Microscopy Congress (IMC) in the year 2014.
Our capital, Prague, is a charming city situated in the very heart of Europe. It has a rich history, magnificent architecture (known as the city of "hundred spires") and a unique culture influenced by various styles that have appeared over the centuries. The city has hosted or has been a "beloved" place for famous personalities like J. Kepler, W. A. Mozart, R. Descartes, P. I. Tchaikovsky, A. Einstein, F. Kafka and many others. Prague was also birthplace of five Nobel laureates - the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1959 was awarded to Jaroslav Heyrovsky for his discovery and development of polarograpic methods and in 1947 the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to Carl and Gerty Cori.
Prague is the seat of the Charles University, the oldest university in Central and Eastern Europe. Founded in 1348, the University has become the centre of education and science for the whole region. The discipline of microscopy has a long tradition within the Academy of Sciences, which is also seated in Prague.
The city has extensive experience in hosting congresses. It has a large congress centre with a spectacular view of Prague´s panorama, around 80,000 hotel beds, and easy flight connections to all main airports worldwide.
By 2014, it will have been exactly 20 years since the IMC Congress was in Europe for the last time therefore we hope that IMC 2014 in Prague will be an exciting and memorable event both scientifically and socially.
