The Post-Doc Initiative offers another career track in addition to the Junior Professorships and the leaders of Junior Research Groups. Positions awarded competitively and with their own budget create more room for independent research in the post-doc phase. Career coaching and intensive counseling prepares the post-docs for their next career step.EARLY CAREER POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS

Early career postdoctoral positions offer the opportunity to face up to the scientific competition and to secure further external funding within two years.

WHO CAN APPLY? Doctoral candidates of German or foreign universities whose PhD certificate will be issued until the starting date of employment (at latest ten months after the application deadline) or whose PhD certificate has at the time of the application deadline not been issued longer than one and a half years ago (date of the doctoral degree certificate). The doctorate must not have been attained at the University of Bremen. Internal applicants can apply for positions granted by the Central Research Development Fund (CRDF).

WHAT CONDITIONS HAVE TO BE MET? An above-average publication output, an innovative and independent project proposal for the post-doc phase and a high potential to achieve the objectives of the Post-Doc-Initiative. A professor conducting full-time research at the University of Bremen has to explain in a detailed letter of intent how the candidate is to be integrated within the research context at the University of Bremen while at the same time maintaining a high degree of independence. The research context is also part of the evaluation.

FUNDING CONDITIONS: A post-doc position paid pursuant to the salary scale E 13 TV-L for 24 months is granted after the completion of the PhD. Additionally, there is an allowance of up to €10,000 per year to cover e.g. costs of student assistants, publications and international mobility. Positions have to be taken up soon after the grant approval. Within the first 16 months, an application for external subsequent funding for the post-doc's own position has to be submitted.

For the years 2012 to 2015 it is intended to publish yearly calls for proposals within the Post-Doc Initiative. The call with deadline 1.9.2014 is only open to women. The number of positions available is shared between the natural and engineering sciences and the social sciences and humanities. The evaluation of previous achievements will take periods of child care into account. The University's respective Research Funding Committee recommends on the basis of external review suitable candidates to the University's Rectorate for decision.

Proposals for funding together with a letter of intent from a professor conducting full-time research at the University of Bremen can be submitted online until 01 September 2014, 11:59 p.m.
