STEP Beyond Travel Grant funds emerging artists and cultural workers to explore and to exchange views, skills and inspiration.

Through our STEP Beyond Travel Grants programme, ECF has been supporting all kinds of cross-border creativity over the past ten years – including music, visual art, theatre, dance, film, documentary, multimedia, design, photography, fashion and cultural capacity building.

STEP Beyond Travel Grants are designed for up-and-coming artists and cultural workers to travel between EU countries and countries bordering the EU. Priority is given to individuals who are under 35 years old and/or who are in the first 10 years of their career. The STEP Beyond funding scheme emerged from previous mobility grant programmes such as Erasmus and APEXchanges.

Over the last ten years, ECF has supported more than 1,700 projects across 59 countries and we remain committed to facilitating cross-border exchange for cultural professionals through this grant scheme. To check out who was funded in 2012 download our Grants Overview here.

Landing AR 3101 is a movie-making project about life in Armenia.

A collaboration between artists in France and 5th Floor Cultural Group in Gyumri, Armenia, the film aims to show the former Soviet country through the eyes of a naive traveller who came there by chance – offering snapshots into people’s lives in Armenia’s cities, as well as exploring the country’s stunning lakes and mountains. The organisers also ran three workshops on theatre, cinema and photography for art students in Armenia.

After two months on the road, 10,000km of driving and 15 video tapes full of footage, the movie was ready for editing – with an original sound track by local band The Bambir. The organisers took part in several exhibitions in Armenia, with further exhibitions planned for France and Serbia. There will be a booklet about the project – and the movie is scheduled for completion in January 2014.

“ECF work is very important to connect young European artists,” says Landing AR 3010 artist Pierre Bedouet. “Mobility is often a wall, with ECF we can climb it.” See their blog here.

STEP Beyond Travel Grants from/to the countries of South Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia) and Turkey are jointly funded with the Open Society Foundation (OSF).
